Party wall checker

Do I need a party wall notice?

Extensions, lofts, basements and boundary walls next to a neighbour often fall under the Party Wall etc. Act 1996. Answer a few questions and we'll tell you which notices you need, when to serve them, and your earliest lawful start date.

How this works

The checker follows sections 1, 2 and 6 of the Act and the GOV.UK explanatory booklet. It covers the common home-improvement cases. Unusual sites (shared access ways, flying freeholds, commercial neighbours) need a surveyor's eye. Nothing is stored on our servers until you ask us to generate a notice pack or request quotes.
